Background in film:
Being an ex film student with an extensive passion for film, this hopefully shines through in all my jobs. With a keen interest in cinematography and film language (using filmic techniques to convey meaning) I always have this in mind wherever possible, and strive to use this to make your day memorable and unique. I also make use of various equipment appropriate for different kinds of shots, all being professional/industry standard quality.

INFLUENCES/APPROACH
Although my influences are fairly extensive, I do have a keen interest in much cinema of the 70’s, where I feel personal creativity and expression was perhaps at its peak. As such I do feel this influence perhaps sets my work apart from other videographers, who may be more conventional. This is not to say my approach is radical, but that a creative stylised input can hopefully be seen. This is largely achieved through certain visual techniques and equipment used.

SERVICES/EQUIPMENT AND TECHNIQUES
The Steadicam/Gimbal (no extra charge) - Most will be familiar with these kind of shots as they are commonly used. A smooth moving shot creates a professional and visually compelling feel, often following people’s actions or creating an audience point-of-view affect. Below are perhaps a couple of the most revered in the film world for their innovativeness, used in Goodfellas and The Shining.

Time Lapse and the ‘Travelling/hyper’ Time Lapse – Most will be aware of a regular time-lapse (a speeded-up shot condensed from a long period of time to very short) which in the case of using for weddings can be an interesting tool for various situations (the meal, dance/after-party , shots of sunset/rise at location). This can in most cases be offered as part of the standard package. However, for those wanting a slightly more interesting and adventurous time-lapse shot the ‘Travelling/hyper’ time-lapse can be applied. Basically, this adds a slow-moving (most often) tracking shot with the time-lapse resulting in a very unique and visually impressive shot. The shot can be time-consuming to set up and acheive, which is why it is offered at an extra cost. A good example of this shot can be seen in the link below (used in the film Requiem for a Dream – showing Ellen Burstyn cleaning her apartment).
A highly recommended use of this type of shot for weddings is during the meal – people trying to eat a nice meal at a wedding in most cases do not want a videographer in their face, but this shot can be completed without being intrusive. **Please note the use of the ‘Travelling’ time-lapse will require around 2-3 meters (2-3 length, 2 wide) of space to be set up, so please make sure it will be possible before agreeing to it.**

Split Field Diopter Lens (no extra charge) - This is a great little filter which is actually rarely used these days by most filmmakers (yet seems to be having somewhat of a comeback) but has a very interesting visual uniqueness, and can be applied to many situations. The filter divides the frame into two halves (in a slightly different way to split-screen however) and focuses on two subjects or objects that are at a distance from each other. Both are important to the shot. The subject closest to screen on one side is in focus with a blurred background and the other completely in focus. This is good for applying to shots where two things in one shot are important, and many lenses do not let you have such a varied depth of field or achieve the same effect. There is a link below to a site that goes into more detail about this filter as well as stills from films it has been used in.

As well as use of the above equipment there are also many more effects and filters that can be applied in editing and where possible can be tailored to suit your wishes. Amongst others these include a ‘Glow’ filter – this gives the shot a dreamy, hazy kind of look. Slow-motion can usually be easily achieved and seems popular for weddings generally. There are a plethora of other standard transition/effects filters. The music used in the video can (in most cases) be your choice, unless you choose to opt for natural sound of the day, or a mix of both. In some cases if time it may be possible to provide you with two or three different cuts of the video which use these filters differently to give more variety and if you are unsure.

I understand that privacy and personal space is important to some so discretion with my filming is always important. You and others need to feel comfortable on this day. People are free to speak to the camera but I will never personally question anybody about anything.
